National and International Processes with CBI

At the national and international levels, helping stakeholders work together can mean supporting work across especially pronounced differences. Strategic and inclusive collaboration in these cases needs careful consideration and guidance. We support such processes within a range of subjects and fields, such as water management, energy siting, land use and transportation, and more. Our services include:

•    Facilitation and mediation
•    Citizen engagement
•    Skill-building training
•    Strategic planning

Read more about examples of these services below.

Finding Agreement in Washington: Policies for Working Families

CBI facilitated the Convergence Collaborative on Supports for Working Families, a cross-partisan effort that brought together national policy experts and practitioners in child and family services. Participants, with different political and social perspectives, ultimately established a set of shared principles and goals.

The result: The collaborative, across real divisions, agreed on policy directions for paid leave, childcare, and child allowances. The breakthrough result received national attention through coverage by The New York Times and NPR.

Priority-Setting at the UN

CBI has facilitated strategic planning processes for the United Nations Development Group, bringing together national government, civil society, and donor counterparts, focusing on development assistance frameworks and post-conflict transition plans.

The result: CBI’s support of multiple levels of UNDG leadership has led to agreement on strategic priorities and plans. At the country level, CBI helped UN Country Teams reach agreement on strategic priorities and plans.

Energía 2050 in Chile

Chile’s Energy Agenda has included a participatory, long-term planning process called Energía 2050, meant to rally a broad spectrum of the country behind a long-term plan to make the country’s energy cleaner, cheaper, and universally accessible. CBI’s Latin America office, based in Santiago, has helped to guide this process.

The result: Through dialogue and shared analysis of technical information, a multi-stakeholder steering committee produced a consensus document with a vision, goals, and strategies for the short-, medium-, and long-term. The Energy Ministry then transformed the Road Map into the country’s new long-term energy policy.

Summits on Housing and Education in the United States

Children from low-income families face many barriers to success in school, from limited early reading opportunities to unsafe neighborhoods to eviction. To address this challenge, the Council of Large Public Housing Agencies (CLPHA) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation convened a series of national summits on housing and education, and they enlisted CBI to design and facilitate the summits.

The result: The summits educated policymakers on supporting partnerships and created ongoing communities of practice at the national and regional levels. Successful partners began working with children and families to broaden and deepen their impact, and to share what they learned.
