In June 2018, CBI Senior Mediator Merrick Hoben was asked to participate in NPR's StoryCorps project, threaded this year into the International Finance Corporation's Sustainability Exchange. The aim was to experiment with long-form, unstructured conversations between leading IFC staff, clients, and partners to share insights on current practices of sustainability.

Merrick was paired with Mark Podlasly, an elder of the Nlaka’pamux Nation located in the Pacific Northwest, who assists indigenous and local communities to identify and engage local economic, social and education opportunities. Their conversation touches on respective experiences working with industry to build consensus and ensure that benefit-sharing programs respond meaningfully to core communities needs, as well as lessons that resonate across differing development and cultural contexts.
