CBI and MIT's Science Impact Collaborative have recently been selected as finalists for MIT's Climate CoLab contest.

MIT's Climate CoLab seeks to harness the collective intelligence of thousands of people from all around the world to address global climate change. Developed by the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence, the Climate CoLab is an online forum where citizens create, analyze, and select detailed proposals for what to do about climate change.

The 2013 CoLab contest consists of five phases: proposal creation, finalist selection, proposal revisions, voting, and presentation to potential implementers. There are numerous contest categories, including:

  • Scaling renewables in major emerging economies
  • Industrial efficiency
  • Hydraulic fracturing
  • Urban adaptation: climate resilient cities
  • Enabling adaptation
  • And more

CBI's contest proposal, titled "Building consensus, enabling adaptation: facilitating collective risk management", is a collaborative approach that at-risk communities can use to move forward with climate adaptation.

There will be two awards for each contest category: a popular choice award, and a judge's choice award. Winners of all contests will be invited to present their proposals and meet potential implementers at MIT's Crowds & Climate Conference in November 2013.
