CBI’s Facilitation of Groundwater Sustainability Agency Formation Serves as Model for Other Complex Challenges in County

After experiencing the benefit of CBI’s mediation and facilitation services that helped create the Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency (SVBGSA), the Monterey County government has announced that it is seeking to engage a facilitator to assist with another complex and similarly divisive issue: finalizing a plan for land use of a former military base. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to ask the Fort Ord Reuse Authority to bring in professional facilitation for negotiations concerning the transition plan. Supervisor Simon Salinas initiated the motion, pointing to the successful SVBGSA formation process as an example of the value of professional facilitation.
