Workable Peace co-directors Stacie Smith and David Fairman were invited to submit a chapter to the book Educating Citizens for Global Awareness, edited by Nel Noddings. "The Integration of Conflict Resolution into the High School Curriculum: The Example of Workable Peace" is a chapter in the book.
In the chapter, the Workable Peace co-directors describe CBI's innovative high school curriculum, which integrates the study of intergroup conflict and the development of crucial civic and social skills into social studies and humanities classes. Their chapter walks through the benefits of including conflict resolution skills in standard social studies courses, and outlines some of the core teachings that emerge through the use of the Workable Peace curriculum. Using examples from Workable Peace units, the chapter highlights the lessons that students learn from experiencing Workable Peace, including understanding the sources of conflict, perspective-taking skills, listening and communication skills, negotiation skills, and civic engagement.
